Description: I have here for sale a book entitled THE HISTORY OF LINCOLN containing an Account of the Antiquities, Edifices, Trade, and Customs of that Ancient City; an Introductory Sketch of the County; and a Description of the Cathedral. To which is added an appendix comprising the charter and a list of mayors and sheriffs. It is a first edition published by Drury and Sons and Taylor and Hessey, Lincoln in 1816. It has a title page vignette but the three plates that should be in it are missing. The book is divided into 5 chapters - early and progressive history to the present time; ecclesiastical history, the cathedral, and early monastic establishments; civil history; public buildings, castles, antiquities etc; and Lincoln in 1816, miscellaneous facts, etc. 5 appendices at the back. Small engraving of the Mechanics Institute, Old Free-School, Lincoln tucked in the front of the book.Bound in blue paper hardboards with beige spine, however no beige cloth left on the spine itself. A few marks and stains to the boards. Corners softened and worn. Board edges rubbed. Boards firm though. Contents page is detached. Slightly darkened page edges from handling. 223 pages, 23 x 15 cm.
