Description: For sale, an original used Senate gallery pass for the impeachment trial of President Andrew Johnson! Dated April 17th, 1868 this green/black variant ticket is in fine condition, showing only some minor surface and edge imperfections. On this historic day, President Johnson's defense began their last three days of testimony arguing that it was improper to impeach Johnson for exercising his what they asserted was Constitutionally protected free speech, and that any conviction based on the tenth article of impeachment would therefore violate Johnson's constitutional rights. This line of argument was enough to convince the senators to acquit the President the following month by one vote. An incredible memento of American political history, these tickets are all that tangibly remain from the trial. Signed in pencil on the reverse by the original recipient, Vivian Lyon Moore. Bright and highly desirable, this ticket is stored in an archival sleeve and rigid top-loader to keep it looking great! Click here to check out all my other cool items!
