Description: A Visit to Europe and the Holy Land, by Rev. H. F. Fairbanks. Published in 1888 by Catholic Publication Society Co., New York. This 463 page, gilt decorated, blue cloth hardcover follows the intrepid priest and his companions, as they discover for the first time the Old World, including Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England, Northern Italy and Rome, Southern Italy, Egypt & the Pyramids, Jaffa, Jerusalem, Mount Moria, Bethlehem, Mounta Carmel, Nazareth, Alexandria, Naples, Loretto, Bologna, Padua, Venice, Lake Constance, Mainz, Cologne, and more! There are five tissue-guarded, black and white illustrations, including the frontispiece of St. Peter's, Rome. Good condition. The worst flaw is that the binding was loosening in front, repaired with good but imperfect results (tears are still evident in the front hinge paper, there are small tears along the fore-edge of the preliminary pages). "St. Gertrude's Library" is stamped on both endpapers and it's handwritten on the front flyleaf, along with the number 95. There's a thin chip on the fore-edge of the title page. Otherwise unmarked, complete and securely bound. Sparse stains inside. Board corners are rubbed, and the gilt is still bright and distinct on the spine and front board. Free shipping in the USA.
