Description: If you are looking for RARE, then look no further. I submitted this card to SGC in 2001-2002. SGC had been in business 3-4 years at that time. You can see by the serial #, SGC had graded a little over 1 million cards at the time this Ty Cobb card was submitted. I chose SGC over PSA at the time, due to the better looking holder. SGC also known for being a tougher grader at that time, on the older vintage cards. This was the highest graded Ty Cobb Old Mill back that SGC had graded at the time. To date, SGC has graded 3 in the EX (5)range and 1 at 5.5 EX+.... NONE higher. SGC has graded a TOTAL of 41 Ty Cobb Bat Off Shoulder, with this Old Mill back, compared to 197 Sweet Caporal, 132 polar Bear, & 143 Piedmont. PSA pop report is listed. Out of 260,900 tobacco cards submitted from the t206 set, only 41 Ty Cobb Bat Off Shoulder OLD Mill backs have been graded. ONLY 4 have been given the EX(5) grade. I've had this Ty Cobb card since the late 1970's. Been in my Safety deposit box since i had it graded in the early 2000's. Can't keep everything forever, so here is a rare opportunity for the collector who wants a rare item, to add to their collection. There is a huge difference between rare and popular. What's popular today, may not be popular next month or next year. What's rare today, will be even rarer and more difficult to find as time passes. This Ty Cobb card has outstanding color. Many of the piedmont Variations have a light background. Pan through ebay and you'll see the difference in color brightness on my card offered here, and others. 55/45 side to side centering. Close centering at the top. 75/25. Corners do show wear and are soft at the tips. Top right corner, is softer than the others. 3 white dots on Ty's coat. Adjacent to his right elbow . Color and clarity on Ty Cobb's face is outstanding. The reverse side is the black old mill printing variety. I've heard there is a brown Old Mill printing variation, though I have never seen any in person or on ebay. Black printing is sharp and distinct. Several light printing blems on the surface, most noticeable on the lower left area by the scroll work .Many of these Tobacco cards will show prominent toning on the reverse side. This card is clean! The gentleman I bought this Card from, had it stored in a lock box for decades. Away from bright lights, sun or moisture. As far as T-206 cards go, the 4 and 5 grades are the most desirable. If u buy a 4 (VG-EX) the card most likely will have a light paper crease. More wear at the corners. Possibly surface discoloration. 80-20 centering. NO major flaws, but will show more wear than a card graded EX. If you were to find this card in a 6 grade or higher, prices really start to take a hike north word! PSA has graded 2 of these Old Mill back variations in a 6. 2 been given the 7 grade and 2 have received the 8 grade. THAT'S IT! Beckett has yet to grade a Ty Cobb Old mill Bat Off shoulder in any grade! Truly a tough card with the Old Mill back. The blue velvet pouch shown in scan 3, was custom made to keep the holder clean. This card will be sent out registered mail Insured. A signature will be required in order to receive the card. PS. A 1909 Ty Cobb Old Mill back variation just sold on ebay in a SGC 20 (1.5 fair) grade for $3788.39, and it had a pin Hole!. Look at completed auctions in advanced search
