Bookplate to the front paste down. Photographic portrait frontispiece of the author, and 16 further plates. Collated complete. Sir Rickman John Godlee (1849-1925) was an English surgeon. In 1884, he became one of the first doctors to surgically remove a brain tumor, founding modern brain surgery. This is a collection of his articles written originally for Whitchurch's monthly parish magazine, on the local history of the area, with a memorial sketch of this well-known and beloved man written by Sir George Newman, and a foreword written by Godlee's wife. 5 pages of advertisements for Godlee's other works, and 4 pages of publisher's advertisements. CONDITION In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally smart, with some wear to the head and tail of the spine, and losses to the spine label. Spine is slightly sunned and there is a small mark to the rear board. Some minor bumping to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean, apart from the odd spot to the first and last couple of pages.
