The late George Herman “Babe” Ruth is regarded as one of the greatest sports heroes in American culture and is considered by many to be the greatest baseball player of all time. In 1936, Ruth was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame as one of its "first five" inaugural members. Ruth was a 7× World Series champion (1915, 1916, 1918, 1923, 1927, 1928, 1932), 2× All-Star (1933, 1934), AL MVP (1923), AL batting champion (1924), 12× AL home run leader (1918–1921, 1923, 1924, 1926–1931), 5× AL RBI leader (1919–1921, 1923, 1926), AL ERA leader (1916), New York Yankees No. 3 retired, Monument Park honoree, Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame, Major League Baseball All-Century Team and Major League Baseball All-Time Team. Although Ruth twice won 23 games in a season as a pitcher and was a member of three World Series championship teams with the Red Sox, he wanted to play every day and was allowed to convert to an outfielder. In his career, Ruth batted .342 in his career with 714 home runs, 2,873 hits and 2,214 RBIs. As a pitcher, Ruth was 94-46 with a 2.28 ERA. Ruth’s All-time ranks are 1st on all-time slugging % with 0.690, 1st on all-time OPS with 1.164, 1st on all-time OPS+ with 206, 2nd on all-time on-base % list with .474, 2nd on all-time At bats per home run list with 11.76, 3rd on all-time RBI list with 2,213, 3rd on all-time home run list with 714, 3rd on all-time bases on balls list with 2,062, 4th on all-time runs list with 2,174, 7th on all-time total bases list with 5,793 and 9th on all-time batting average list with .342. The late Hank Aaron ("Hammerin' Hank") played in 24 All-Star Games, was NL MVP (1957), World Series Champion (1957), was a 3x Gold Glove Award winner, and hit 755 home runs, holding the MLB record for career home runs for 33 years. Aaron batted .305 for his career and holds the MLB records for the most career RBIs (2,297), extra base hits (1,477), and total bases (6,856). Aaron is also in the top five for career hits (3,771) and runs (2,174). He is one of only four players to have at least seventeen seasons with 150 or more hits. Aaron is in second place in home runs (755) and at-bats (12,364), and in third place in games played (3,298). At the time of his retirement in 1976, Aaron held most of the game's key career power hitting records. Aaron hit 24 or more home runs every year from 1955 through 1973, and is one of only two players to hit 30 or more home runs in a season at least fifteen times. Willie Mays ("The Say Hey Kid") played almost all of his 22-season career for the New York/San Francisco Giants before finishing with the New York Mets. He is regarded as one of the greatest baseball players of all time and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979. Mays was a 24× All-Star (1954–1973), World Series champion (1954), 2× NL MVP (1954, 1965), NL Rookie of the Year (1951), 12× Gold Glove Award (1957–1968), NL batting champion (1954), 4× NL home run leader (1955, 1962, 1964, 1965) and 4× NL stolen base leader (1956–1959). In 1999, Mays placed second on The Sporting News's "List of the 100 Greatest Baseball Players", making him the highest-ranking living player. Later that year, he was also elected to the Major League Baseball All-Century Team. Mays is one of five National League players to have had eight consecutive 100-RBI seasons. Mays hit over 50 home runs in 1955 and 1965, representing the longest time span between 50-plus home run seasons for any player in history. During his career, Mays batted .302 with 3,283 hits, 660 home runs, 1,903 RBIs and 338 stolen bases. This card was purchased in the 1980s and has been stored in a smoke-free environment.
