Opera in Spoleto - Built in the 19th-Century to accommodate Italy's operatic revolution, the beautiful Teatro Nuovo in Spoleto, with its central chandelier of gold and crystal tulips and its drop-curtain depicting Hannibal's defeat by the Spoletini in the year 217 B.C., houses the large-scale opera and ballet productions of Gian Carlo Menotti's Spoleto Festivals, the 39th of which is scheduled to open on June 26th and continue for 19 days, through July 14th.
