Description: Quick, someone call the fire department! The figure in the wood on this guitar is just gorgeous. When I saw this guitar, it was one of the most beautiful I had ever seen, and although I hadn't planned on buying a guitar that day, I had to have it. It was on a wall display at a guitar shop in California, in their used section. I ask to examine it, and the salesman handed it to me. The first two things I noticed about this guitar was all the flame maple {not seen on a standard run of the mill 335} and the finish color, what I would call a "honey burst", not a standard color either. When I ran the serial number, it came back as being made at the Nashville shop, not the Memphis shop that a regular 335 would have been. So was it a unmarked custom shop guitar? The answer was inside the pocket of the case. A twenty-one page manual for a Gibson 335 printed in Japanese and marked: "Yamano Music". The story I heard on these "made for Yamano Music" Gibson guitars, is that after Yamano became a Gibson dealer, they rejected almost every guitar Gibson sent them. Claimed they didn't meet their expectations for quality. So after some negotiations, they struck a deal: Gibson would send them unmarked custom shop built guitars with standard serial numbers {but Nashville numbers nonetheless}. Yamano would pay Gibson custom shop dealer prices, but they couldn't market them as custom shop guitars. This arrangement worked out for several years until other dealers found out and complained. So Gibson decided to terminate the deal. Now, I can't say with 100% certainty this is true, but I heard it from an informed source {former Gibson dealer} and allot of that story matches up with this guitar's unique construction, which is definitely not standard production specs. The guitar itself is in superlative condition, as I never played it out, only at home. There are no repairs, cracks, splits, chips, dimples, buckle rash, or any other fault with this guitar. It is a 9.5 out of 10. I used flatwound strings on it except for one string change, the frets are at 90% easily. Tuning keys stay in tune. Aged Nickle parts and covers. All original, nothing swapped out. Weights 8lbs 14oz, not bad at all for a 335, and if my old back can shoulder it for an hour playing with friends, anyone can. I have owned this guitar for twelve years, and have enjoyed it immensely, but the truth is, I struggle to play anything these days. Severe arthritis and nerve damage from carpal tunnel in my cording hand makes it painful. I am paring down on a forty plus year collection of musical instruments and other items I need to part with. Buying an travel trailer and seeing the country while I still can. I figure the sale of all of all of this stuff will pay for about half of the trailer.
