Description: Bessie Collins Pease was born in 1876 in Philadelphia. She studied art In New York City, and after marriage, changed her signature to Bessie Pease Gutmann. The Awakening (1918) is one of her most notable works. Because of failing eyesight, she retired from drawing in 1947. She died in 1960. This print is signed and numbered 664. It was issued by her husband's firm, Gutmann and Gutmann, which was formed in 1902. The print is unframed and is in very good condition, showing some minor markings in the lower left corner.
