Description: Antique Chinese Rice Mold Hand Carved Wooden KASHIGATA Flowers Lotus Pod 12 1/2" Kashigata are traditional Japanese molds used to make Wagashi, which are Japanese sweets. Kashigata are used for many special events including tea ceremonies, weddings, and shrine offerings. They are also considered works of art and history. The tradition of carving Kashigata is over 300 years old. This late 19th century wood mold was used for shaping festive mooncakes. Packed with lotus root, red bean, or other regional fillings, mooncakes are a delicacy eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival as an offering between friends and family. The mold is carved in relief with two lotus seed pods, a motif of fertility and plentiful offspring. Beautifully aged and full of character, we love this humble kitchen tool as a storied token from the past. This antique mold with a gorgeous patina measures 12 1/2" x 3 1/4" x 1".
