Description: This is a Wonderful 19TH C DOCUMENT BOX Old Grain Paint Fine DOVETAIL Construction HAND Made It’s made of poplar (I believe) and it has been grain painted to resemble burled maple. Also has painted stags and a coat of arms. The interior is painted to resemble burled walnut. THE ENTIRE BOX IS IN EXTREMELY Unique. It’s in good structural CONDITION. THE BOX ITSELF ALL ORIGINAL. IT STILL RETAINS ITS ORIGINAL HINGES lock and with a key (that I can not get to work). The finish shows age, wear and loss, I’m sure it’s original. The size is larger than normal, it measures 12” x 10” x 4.75” tall Typical wear associated with the age of the item. I love old document boxes. I can imagine the prized papers such as deeds, contracts, receipts and other valuables. Also these would have held more personal items such as portraits or locks of hair. Please see all photos.
