Antique Gardner Marcus Steel Engraving "The King is Dead" Framed late-1800s

Description: I am pleased to offer this Lovely Framed Antique late 1800s W.B. Gardner Steel Engraving entitled "Le Roi Est Mort-Vive Le Roi" by Marcus Stone!"The King is dead - Long live the King!" The small boy clutches to his mother's legs in fear...the members of the court look on and are likely scaring him with the shouting.This large steel engraving has absolutely stunning detail, and was produced from artwork by Marcus Stone. The engraving was done by William Biscombe Gardner (1847-1919) who was an English Painter and Wood-Engraver. He was a fine wood-engraver that he was mainly known, providing illustrations for English magazines.The engraving was nicely matted and set in an antique solid wood frame, with a piece of the mat cut to reveal the title. Gardner's signature can be seen on the bottom right corner.Frame measures approx. 26-1/2" W x 20-1/2" H x 2" DeepCondition:This antique engraving is in good condition for its age. The paper appears to have been mounted on a board and then frame set. There is visible staining to the paper around the edges, however I did not remove from the frame to see full extent. The visible area of the artwork displays wonderfully. The antique frame has thin wood-panel backing, and show moderate scratching to the wood from ages of display and storage.
