Antique Prima Beverages Wood Crate 1920's 1930's Made by Owens-Illinois Glass Co

Description: This antique wooden crate from the 1920s or 1930s is a collectible item that will perfectly complement any breweriana collection. The box features the branding of Prima Beverages directly in business under this name and was made in the United States. It has no lid and shows signs of wear and during its use could hold twenty-four bottles. It's unique that at some point the company standard required the hand slots to have a metal curved plate covering the fingers, so these crates were used over and over. The inside has what looks like a spring-loaded latch. Based on preliminary research, this crate was built by Owen's Illinois Glass company in Alton Illinois at what appears to be no earlier than 1929 and used through 1938 by Prima beverages until the company closed its doors. During prohibition Prima Beverages was using a different name and owner surviving by producing non-alcohol beverages. It's ironic that they closed its doors after prohibition ended. It appears that the crate manufacturer and the bottle manufacturer are one in the same at that time. This company also provided Pepsi and many, many other beverage companies with bottles and crates. There may be better boxes out there from this period but not many with the hand "cups" located inside that I've seen. Unique in its own way. Now there's a little bit of general history to go with this piece. Items like these have their own appeal and in my opinion they are unique.
