Description: ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE DRY PAINTED GREEN DOCUMENT BOX, DOME TOP, CIRCA 1850s Estate fresh antique primitive 1850 or earlier, wood dome top dry painted document box in original green paint with square nail construction. Original colored prints glued into inner dodmed lid. There is a metal key lock/hasp, escutcheon. Unfortunately there is no key. The box has strong construction. Pencil written inside lid Jacob H. Wiey?. Hard to read.The box opens via original double metal hinged lid. As shown in photographs. This box is large enough for storing documents, paper accumulations, a catch all, or storage for candles. Would look super displayed in your early cupboard or anywhere in your early home. A good size for the top of a stack. This is a decorative, quality item that has a variety of potential uses. The perfect addition to your folk art inspired interior. CONDITIONBeing sold in as found condition with surface dirt, dust, and no repairs. The condition is very good with wonderful age patina, it has been used for decades. The dome has a one age crack of 4 inches on top dome but cannot be seen on inside. Scuffs at corners, decades ago a 1 inch piece of wood is missing from front corner, has two latches over key holes and one latch over key hole has broken. Piece of corner wood missing from base corner as shown in photos. Original dry surface and patina. I have not tried to clean or alter in any way. as found from a old country farmhouse estate in western New York, near the Pa., state line.
