Description: Antique Platform RockerWith Footrest This piece is in very good overall structural condition and has just received a great deal of restoration.Aside from the chair fabric, all has been gone over and brought back to the original appearance. Thewood of both pieces has been stained and varnished leaving it looking very nice, and all metal parts(save for the decorative tacks along the upholstery) were removed, buffed until shiny, and reinstalledright down to the screws and the underside of the chair hardware. The days it spent to perform thesetasks provided the perfect opportunity to conduct a thorough inspection in a search for any damage,or excessive wear. Top to bottom details: The stiles running down either side of the back of the chairare damage free and look very good save for a chipped off piece on the back, left side from the springtension rod, down. All attached hardware is in excellent shape with no damage and a good appearance. The upholstery fabric on the front of the backrest is good with a couple tiny blemishes to be found, andthe back looks fine. The armrests have worn fabric, otherwise all is good. There is no damage to the woodand the mechanical parts function properly. The seat fabric is OK for approximately three quarters of the wayfrom the back, and the front quarter is worn and discolored. The wood of the front, back and sides of the seatare all in good, solid condition and have little wear. There are two hooks that pull out from either side of the front, and they connect to the footrest to make a lounge chair. These look good and function as they should. The knobthat allows the back to recline is in good condition and operates as it should. The underside of the seat is free ofdamage or any real wear. The fabric portion looks to have been replaced at some point, and all metal mechanicalpieces look good. The left side was worked on by us. It is hard to explain, but one piece now has spacers under itto make the pivot point line up properly. The hinges connecting this portion of the chair to the legs were repaintedblack, as they had dulled with age. The two in the front are fine. One of the back ones has been replaced with aweaker spring, and the other is slightly stretched. It is believed that the replacement spring causes the seatportion to slant very slightly to the right, as there is not as much tension holding it down on the left side. Thelegs are very good, as are the mechanical parts, and the seat-tilt knob operates properly. The front piece ofwood has four screws that once held connectors for the footrest. One of these was missing, and the otherwas broken, so it was removed. The wheels were part of the restoration project, and they came out lookingnice. They all swivel and roll properly with no issues to report. The foot rest received the same treatment asthe chair, and it was reupholstered. The original fabric was heavily worn, so it was replaced with somethingclose in color. This was by no means a professional job and was done to clean up the appearance. It didn'tcome out perfect, but does look much better than the original. Since the old fabric had to be removed, thecushioning was inspected. It consists of wool, horse hair and jute layers. All is in good, clean shape. Thewood is fine on all sides, as are the four legs and wheels. Like the chair, the fabric on the underside mayhave been replaced. There is a folding metal bracket that tucks into the sides. It is believed that this hooked onto the two missing pieces on the front of the chair to have an attached footrest. The legs fold in and are secured with pivoting metal pieces. These are also in very good condition.
