Description: Offered is a Wm Beatty & Son ( who was one of America’s most prolific edge toolmaker) , antique meat cleaver hog splitter, 1800’s, 9” long blade with a depth of 4”-4.5”, with overall at 16”, hickory handle. Condition: unlike many of these old cleavers, it has no rust, and has not been hacked on, on the top edge as is often seen, blade shows the usual scratches from use as expected for an item this old. Hickory handle has age crack as shown, with tang peened over in end, still tight. This is a very nice example meat cleaver from one of America’s premier tool makers in early America and kept in remarkably good condition by previous owners who valued their tools.
