Description: Aviation ULB Test Set (Under Water Locating Beacon Tester) Revision (2) This unit is for the testing of the ULB (Underwater Beacon, Ping Test) on most corporate jets. It works just like the Dukane/Seacom test unit and is only a fraction of the cost. I am an Aircraft Mechanic and wanted a test unit of my own without having to pay the four-thousand dollars for those other test units.Figured out how to make my own and decided to see if there were other mechanics out there that wanted another option for testing. To test your beacon, just turn the unit on and adjust the gain about half way. Activate your beacon and you'll hear a clicking sound. That's the ULB sending its signal. Really simple and nothing else to do to accomplish the test. I've sold a few of these now and haven't had any complaints. I have a new battery installed and function test the unit just before shipping to make sure it works. The "tube" beacon in the picture does not come with the sale, just the test unit. I put it in the picture, next to the test unit, just for size comparison and its what I use to test the units. I've been asked, but I don't have any 'Calibration Certs' to send with it... not sure where, if any, that can be accomplished. If you hear the ticking noise then its working.... pretty simple. This unit will easily test frequencies between 20kHz and 100kHz. Most beacons (DK120/DK140/DK290 etc.) have a signal around 37kHz. The low frequency (DK140) is around 8.8kHz so it will likely not pick up that beacon signal, but I haven't specifically tested that one yet. Thanks for looking.Ken
