The 1766 receipt is for nails, glass and other items. The 1769 receipt lists, among other items, gunpowder “into the province Magazine from the Brik Suky, Isaac Coleman commandr. BYFIELD LYDE, the purchaser, was a Harvard graduate, loyalist and son-in-law of Gov. JONATHAN BELCHER. Byfield fled with the Royal Army to Halifax in 1776. Byfield’s grandfather was NATHANIEL BYFIELD, who left the bulk of his estate to his grandson. Docketing on the verso of both. One noting “Byfield Lyde, Esq. account of charges on Powder [from] Brig.
