Description: Stewart Durbin Memorial This is a copy of my Great Great Grandfather's Stewart Durbin's Grand Army of the Republic Memorial It is available for Descendants of Stewart Durbin It came to me by a Tressler relative It is @ 18” x 22.5” The memorial was originally issued by the Wm Kurtz Post 104, Grand Army of the Republic, Connellsville PAIt’s given July 1905 Stewart enlisted in the infantry Aug 1862 and started marching and was wounded 4 months later at Fredericksburg VA, one of the worst defeats for the GAR. He was sent to the Wolf Street Hospital in Alexandria for 3 months and then he was honorably discharged in Feb 1863 for disability ( leg wounds) but what this memorial doesn’t mention is Stewart relisted 6 months later and is discharged from the Calvary at Leavenworth KS in 1865 ***Stewart and his wife Catherine are buried in the Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Connellsville PA. The cemetery is a mess and doesn’t appear to have caretakers. The picture is taken @ 1913 at the home of his daughter Laura Tressler Durbin in S. Connellsville PA Stewart is my second great grandfather…I’d love to locate a photograph of him in his GAR uniform. Stewart Durbin and Catherine Trump had sons George, William, Joseph and Bert … They had daughters, Elizabeth, Laura, Minnie, Alice and Anna when he passed Elizabeth Jaynes, Laura Tressler and George were living in South Connellsville William was living in Akron, OH Bert was living in Indiana Minnie Mason was living in Pittsburgh Anna and Joseph were in Woodlawn PAA lot of descendants of Stewart and Catherine are out there...add any information if you can supply greatly appreciated
