Description: Dead Men Walk / Monster Maker Two of the Forties' greatest, and busiest, character actors appear in this ghastly double feature from the Poverty Row studio PRC (Producer's Releasing Corporation) and prolific director Sam Newfield. In Dead Men Walk (1943), We're treated to two George Zucco's, as he plays twin brothers-one a doctor, the other student of the occult. The cast includes Dwight Frye as basically the same nutcase vampire's assistant he played in Dracula (1931). The picture was shot in a mere six days. Certainly one of the sickest, most twisted Poverty Row horror films has to be 1944's The Monster Maker. In it, mad scientist J. Carrol Naish exacts his revenge by injecting victims with acromegaly, the horrible disfiguring disease Rondo Hatton (The Brute Man) suffered from. Glenn Strange, Ralph Morgan and Tala Birell co-star. With several hundred films to his credit (23 features in 1943 alone!), Sam Newfield stands as one of the fastest and most prolific directors in film history. His multitudinous credits include ** Nabonga (1944), Murder Is My Business (1946) and The Terror Of Tiny Town (1938), the notorious all-midget B Western.
