This fresh-to-the-marketplace authentic, original oil painting on wood panel, with applied gilt gold leaf and typographic hieroglyphs Russian icon painting of 'The Madonna with the Christ Child' or 'The Mother of Perpetual Help,' features gilt, gold leaf applique to the background around the central figures. The oil enamel paint is largely unblemished, with only some very minor scuffs and perhaps some very slight abrasions and some minor discoloration found mostly on the gilt gold leaf. There appears to be a very small push in the paint film on the bottom right. The hands of the Madonna, gently and affectionately support the Christ child in her lap and her expression is particularly tender and affectionate. The wood panel is thick and cut from a single pine board. The gold gilt leafing and brush strokes are clearly visible and the able and sure-handed handling of the paint, is readily apparent for all to see and virtuoso. This is the work of an experienced painter and not an amateur. It also features the kind of stylization seen in many other contemporary early to mid 20th century Russian icon paintings on wood panel. The figures emanate static, sublime spirituality and emotional presence, which makes this stylized graphic iconography of The Madonna with The Christ Child or The Mother of Perpetual Help, particularly exciting and memorable.
