Description: Caldwell, Erskine - Tobacco Road - Charles Scribner’s Sons: New York, 1932 - First Edition / First Printing - Scribners’ seal and the letter “A” both present on the copyright page as required in order to denote the first printing of the first edition. “Good preachers don’t preach about God and heaven, and things like that. They always preach against something, like hell and the devil. Them is things to be against. It wouldn’t do a preacher no good to preach for God. He’s got to preach against the devil and all wicked and sinful things. That’s what the people like to hear about. They want to hear about the bad things.” The book has soiling, light sunning to the spine, some rubbing and scuffs. All together a still solid example with the boards mostly straight, the binding still square and firm, and internally with no writing or other markings to make note of. The dust jacket is a facsimile from an FEL copy with someone had married together with this true first. It is in rather well kept condition and is doing a good job of helping to keep this copy safe. This copy is signed on a card by Erskine Caldwell which was professionally adhered to the front end page. Included is a third party certificate which was apparently included when the signature was purchased. A rather solid copy of a notoriously fragile and hard to locate book which dates from the height of the Great Depression. All books are offered with a full 30 day postage paid return policy. All books which are in dust jackets will be mailed with a clear archival dust jacket protector fitted. Shipping costs can be combined if multiple purchases are made. Items will be packaged and shipped within one business day unless otherwise noted. Please always feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.
