Description: FINE LATE 19th. CENTURY LARGE WINE COASTER by WILLIAM HUTTON & Sons, 1895 Normal 0 false false false EN-GB X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 This is a wonderful, quite large Sterling Silver wine coaster which dates to the late Victorian period, assayed for London 1895 and made by the noted Silversmiths William Hutton & Sons. In good heavy gauge Sterling Silver, it is depicted as a fine wine (decanter) coaster with a thick heavy Mahogany base and fine relief depictions of Green Man masks(?) linked by flowers, leaves, vines, and stems etc, and raised oval cartouches around its circumference (one with small inscription). The above maker’s and date marks are struck to the upper body (slightly rubbed but still easily readable). It measures 5" (12.75cm) Dia. x 3 1/8" (8cm) H approx; and is in excellent condition for its age, although the rim is very slightly off the round, and there is a shallow ripple to the silver retaining band to the underside base. Both hardly noticeable, but only mentioned for reasons of complete accuracy - for all see photographs and details.
