Description: This is Follies as you've never heard it. The original LP mix (also used for both previous CD issues) was horrendous, which is why people have always had a love/hate affair with it. In 2012, producer Bruce Kimmel after two years of trying, finally convinced Capitol Records to license Follies to him for a limited edition pressing, despite the two previous CD releases still being in print. For the first time ever, Kimmel was allowed to pull the original eight-track masters to completely remix the album from scratch. People had always blamed the issues with the LP/CD to a poorly engineered recording. Listening to the eight-track masters he found out that the recording itself, engineering-wise, was incredible. It was the rushed one-day mix that was the problem. Over a two-week period, Kimmel and engineer John Adams completely remixed it and the result was, as Stephen Sondheim said upon hearing it, "a miracle." Follies finally sounds like the classic cast album it should have always sounded like. Yes, it's truncated - nothing to be done about that - but this new mix brings out the orchestral details brilliantly, and puts the vocals front and center with great clarity. Dorothy Collins' daughter said she could not believe the difference. Jonathan Tunick was bowled over by it, as was Hal Prince, John McMartin, and others who were still alive from the original production. The initial pressing of 1500 sold out very quickly, but Sondheim really wanted it to be available longer, so a new deal was struck to do another batch. When that's gone, that's it. Grab one while you can - you will never hear a better-sounding Follies, and no new production has ever matched the cast of the original. The CD is new and sealed.
