President of the United States during World War I, Woodrow Wilson initially sought neutrality in Europe's growing conflict. However, the hope for that began to fade, with evidence of the destruction within countries such as Belgium leaving Wilson little choice. By the time that the Lusitania was sunk, the die had essentially been cast, and America joined in declaring war upon the Central Powers in 1917. This medal by Lindl alludes to the idea of Wilson and America being tacitly involved on the side of the allies far before actually joining.
