You know ... ' The ' Night that Branford came out to Play ?! Whoa !!!!! I know, what needs to be said = Finally !!! Ha ! Just kidding, but - let's be real ... as this is kind of how it feels, right ? So, let's see ... this Show was now played by the Band now close to 30-Years Ago - and, to this here Deadhead that is no joke at all ... as I probably ' upgraded ' this Cassette Tape close to 10-Times ?!? Ha !! Well, you know ... adding in the DAT upgrades - the later CD upgrades - and naturally ... the like 5+ analog cassette upgrades as well - at least ! This was one to wear out - and there is no-question about that. So ... Finally ! the Ultimate !! G.D. pro-release - in All ! of its Musical Glory ! - and ... All of the Rightful-Glory ! that is deserves. This Show is a Perfecto ! example of Musicians playing Musicians-Music for each other, with naturally ... all of the Dead Fans in the Front Row ! Because, there was nothing but ! a front seat inside " Spaceship Nassau " on this night - and if you were in - then you were in !!! I have to admit honestly ( and, yes ... I do take a lot of flack from my fellow musicians & music loving friends - Ha ! ) - but ... I have at times in my life questioned whether or not Sax belongs on stage with Rock & Roll. Yes, I know ... my apologies in advance to Bobby Keys ! But, this Show with Branford Marsalis is one of the prime examples & musical moments in my life personally - that actually got me over that notion ( some ... ). In fact, when I 1st experienced the G.D. with Branford myself - this even led my ears into making me buy Tickets to see Winton Marsalis too ! - rocking out on the Trumpet right in '90 ! I kind of got hooked ( a little ... ) on the notion of Brass with Rock in this '90 Era - and in a lot of ways - this meeting of the G.D. & Branford was indeed the catalyst. This Show is truly a Musicians Clinic ! of when to play - when not to play ... and really - how to play right ! I mean look at it this way too, in a modern G.D. era where " Spring '90 " is the flavor in style, well ... this one was so darn good ... and really - nothing short of Legendary ! to the point that it was released as a stand-alone. Because, it's real simple ... put this 3-CD Set in your cherished collection ( up on the ' Top ' Shelf ) - and You ! simply cannot go wrong. I always thought the Spring '90 Tour Opener at the Cap Centre ( 3/14/90 ) was one of the Best ! Dead Shows I ever saw Live in this Era - but ... I'll openly admit - this 3/29/90 night at Nassau gives Landover a pretty solid-run for the Title. So much '90 G.D. ! these-days ( Thankfully !! ) and so little time ! ...
