Description: Seminole Indian Chief Osceola is buried here in front of the main entrance to Fort Moultrie. Osceola, captured in spite of his flag of truce, during the Seminole Indian War of 1835, was imprisoned in a dungeon here where he died in 1838. Fort Moultrie was begun in 1796 on the site of old "Fort Sullivan," famous during Revolutionary action. Edgar Allan Poe, a soldier here in 1828, used the setting for his story "The Gold Bug." The card is in good condition, some dings, aging marks on the front and back, with wear on the corners.
