Description: Chinese guardian lions, or imperial guardian lions, are a traditional Chinese architectural ornament. Typically made of stone, they are also known as stone lions or shishi (石獅; shíshī). They are known in colloquial English as lion dogs or foo dogs / fu dogs. The concept, which originated and became popular in Chinese Buddhism, features a pair of highly stylized Asiatic lions— that were thought to protect the building from harmful spiritual influences and harmful people that might be a threat. While I can't promise you that protection, I can assure you this striking piece is free from any damage. No repairs, cracks or chips! Weighing in at just under 3 pounds, stand 7 1/2" tall, 6 1/2" in width and 4 1/2" deep. Much of the design is hand-painted - evidenced by a few brush strokes. Elegant in design and certain to attract attention as a welcome addition to your Oriental theme!
