I only choose the best quality, healthiest plants to ship :) The aloe will be well protected with bubble wrap and other packing material... however, I can't guarantee that there won't be an occasional broken leaf or 2 during the shipping, but these plants seal (heal) themselves quickly and one broken leaf won't be noticed once it gets growing. Sierra ALOE GROWING INFORMATION Aloe can be planted indoors or outdoors, but will turn brownish and not have as plump of leaves in harsh sunlight, so choose a location with indirect light... especially to start with. Will freeze, make sure to protect it during frost dangers. Not suitable for wintering over in cold weather zones. Would need to be brought inside. Will grow faster outside than inside, but definitely makes a good indoor houseplant. SOIL: Use well-draining sandy potting soil, a good quality commercial mix with extra perlite, granite grit, or coarse sand added is recommended or Cacti and succulent mixes. Wide containers are best. It's normal for them to take a little time for them to adjust to different soil. They may turn purple/brown color before they get green again. Less direct hot sun (in summer) helps them turn green faster if they do darken. This is very normal when replanting. HOWEVER, not enough sun and the new leaves will be skinny. WATERING: This is a succulent and does not need lots of water. Soak soil well to begin with, but then allow the soil to become fairly dry before watering again. This will encourage root growth. Lightly water during winter months since the drying out will be slower. If you over-water the Aloe vera plant or give it too much direct sunlight, it will turn brown and begin to curl up on itself. Not enough water or not enough sunlight, it will start to droop, and look 'sad'. You know when to water your Aloe Vera when you can barely feel any moisture in the dirt with your finger submerged as deep as your cuticle. Don't drench the plant, but water it until water begins to drain out of the bottom of the pot. Make sure there is a drainage hole so the water can drain easily. REPOTTING:~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When it is rootbound, it will be top heavy and will send out more new shoots or pups--Time to repot. Remove new shoots when they are 3 to 4 inches high and replant in their own pots. If you don’t, they will suck life from the mother plant. Water the pups well when repotting then don’t water again until completely dry, forcing the new roots to get strong and seek water. They may turn greyish or darken initially, this is normal. They do take time to acclimate to different soil but don't give up, even if they look sick. Even if dryed out for a while they can come back. Just don't let roots stay wet too long or they can get root rot. SYMPTOMS OF POOR CARE Leaves small, thin or skinny, flat instead of upright: insufficient light. Leaves are thin and curled: it’s not being watered enough and is using up its own liquid. Leaves turning brown or white: too much direct sunlight. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The gel is well known for its healing properties. Trim the thorny edges from the severed leaf, then slice across its width. The inner transparent, gooey gel is ready to be applied directly to the afflicted area. Use generously, it will be absorbed by the skin within several minutes. After the gel from the first layer of ruptured cells has run dry, scratch the surface with a clean knife to rupture more cells, releasing more juice. This can be continued until there is nothing but green skin left. Wrap partially used leaves in foil or plastic wrap and refrigerate, it will last for days. Google for more ways to use.
