Mary McFadden Couture Tea Gown. Plisse Pleated 1985 Size 6

Description: I purchased this "tea length" gown in 1985 from Bergdorf Goodman in New York City for $3,200 and wore it once. It was professionally stored in a bridal level couture box and stayed in storage until I took it out and examined it. It was then repacked professionally in a new storage box. It is excellent condition with no flaws. As with many couture McFadden's, the sleeves open up to fit the shape of your arm comfortably, They are not tight. The fit is wonderful The plisse pleats are her trademark and Christian Dior commented that her gowns fit the body "like liquid silk" The sweetheart neckline is gorgeous and very flattering. These photos were taken with an iphone. The dress is a delicious shade of lavendar. And although some of the photos show white or silver, that is just the light reflecting off the fabric. I remember the salesperson telling me that this style would never look old fashioned and you can see that it doesn't. A true classic. The invisible zipper runs up the side which makes the dress flow seamlessly down the body. (The photo of the back best depicts of shade of lavender) Hoping that someone else will love this gorgeous piece of history. As Ms. McFadden passed away a few months ago, her couture has become more valuable. Cherish this dress and find someone you love to pass it down to. Length from shoulder seam: 46" long Sleeves: 25" long Armpit to armpit, seam to seam: 16" The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute curator Harold Koda deemed her a "design archaeologist" for her historically inspired work.The dresses were made from Marii, a synthetic charmeuse patented by McFadden in 1975 that was made in Australia, dyed in Japan, and then machine-pressed in the United States. The dresses were popular with socialites including Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Grace Kelly.
