Over the years, some design elements evolved, but the 1999-2001 pattern dial remained a favorite for its clear, uncluttered layout and superior nighttime visibility. This model retains that original dial design. While the original version used Tritium, this updated watch uses Luminova for illumination, though the encircled T marking has been kept for historical accuracy. Originally discontinued nearly 20 years ago, an unexpected discovery was made when an MWC distributor in Australia found 500 brand-new watches during a stock check. These watches, made between 1999 and 2001, were quickly sold, sparking renewed demand. In response, MWC decided to remake the watch, keeping the same design but incorporating significant upgrades made possible by advances in watch manufacturing over the past two decades. Key improvements include the Miyota 8315 automatic movement with a 60-hour power reserve—an impressive feature today but unheard of 20 years ago. The movement can also be hand-wound and includes hacking for synchronization. Additionally, the crystal has been upgraded from hardened mineral glass to sapphire, which offers exceptional scratch and shatter resistance. The bezel was also updated to a 120-click unidirectional bezel, compared to the 60- or 90-click bezels used in earlier versions. This watch uses a case design originally crafted by the renowned Swiss firm MRP S.A., a case-making company with a long history dating back to 1953. The design has stood the test of time and has been used by notable brands such as Heuer, Precista, Nilax, and Elvia. CWC and other modern manufacturers still utilize this case design. Few people realize how historically significant this pattern is, having been in continuous production for over 40 years.
