Description: This Japanese evening woodblock print for sale is by prolific Japanese artist Ando Hiroshige 1797-1858. The scene depicts a classic Japanese landscape image of a lady dressed in Kimono, holding a lantern while walking through town during the evening. A flock of birds is shown center of the image. The scene reminds the excellent shading, color usage, and imagery that Hiroshige created in his ukiyo-e landscapes. The work features two publishing signature seals noted to the lower right of the trimmed. This matted and framed edition dating to the early 20th century is circa 1910-1920 and published by Hasegawa as part of a portfolio of woodblock prints entitled “Hasegawa’s Night Scenes.” The colors in this print are exceptional, and the print itself was well preserved for over 60 years, as it was not subjected to sunlight. A hand noted inscription added to this work’s matting identifies the artist and title of the print.
