Description: Original WW2 British Army Trench Art Brass 2 Pounder Anti-Tank Ashtray Genuine period trench art ashtray which was made from a section of a brass 2 pounder anti-tank shell by a British soldier who served during the Second World War. The ashtray is the lower section of a shell and the base has been cut into an octagon shape (see pictures). Trench art are objects usually made from scrap materials, debris or by-products of warfare. Although items made by soldiers are called trench art, they were almost never made in the trenches. Items like this required skill, tools and machinery and were manufactured in workshops behind the lines. The ashtray is made from brass and the base is stamped 2Pd No2, I (dentoing MkI), manufatcurer R.L (Royal Laboratories Woolwich Arsenal) and dated 1941.
