Description: Seabury Book of Common Prayer BCP 1979 Reader Enlarged Print Episcopal Leather VB-677 This is a gorgeous and flexible reader-sized Book of Common Prayer of Episcopal Church USA. It is the 1979 edition, but pre-RCL so it uses the older Sunday Lectionary. If you are looking for quality editions with wonderful paper and typeface, pre-RCL is the only way to go since Oxford’s manufacturing went downhill starting in the late 1990s and Seabury was long since out of business. Cambridge continued to produce great editions, though. Seabury produced, in my opinion, the highest quality BCPs aside from some earlier Oxford editions which rival this one, though much thicker in size and none that would qualify for this “thin line,” a great paring for a Harper NRSV Thinline or Cambridge NRA22/27; almost the same footprint. It is imitation leather based on look, feel, and the many other copies I have. The imitation and bonded leather of the 80s was amazing, though. The page edge gilding is in great condition with a scuff on the side, with small, scattered scratches. I found no writing anywhere. These are quite difficult to come by since this edition is long out of print, especially in this condition. I noticed an odd puncture on the spine and a slightly sagging text block, likely from being stored upright for some time. I always list any writing, stains, tears, or imperfection of any kind. And I always list the condition conservatively, so you should expect the item to be in better condition than listed. Unlike the vast majority of sellers out there, I refuse to hide imperfections through cleverly taken pictures or obscure descriptions. I try to include as many pictures as necessary to highlight the imperfections rather than the beauty of the items, which is part of why I have an elevated Seller Status and perfect feedback in which many consistently report back “just as described” or “better than described.” If I miss something by accident, please contact me so I can make it right.
