Description: Two very nice and ornate small plates. They look to be hand-painted. Backs are stamped with a Vienna Austria stamp and they look hand-signed (signature seems to be I.S. Smith maybe? Or I.S.S. Hirth?). They're 5" across and have very nice floral paintings on them. There is a gold-painted rim around each one and the gold is in good shape (no chips). Uniquely, these have a grid of small holes in a pattern (repeating reticulated pattern) around the edge. Somebody on the internet wisely says: The Vienna Austria mark with double shield and crown is usually associated with the PH Leonard Company, circa 1890-1908, an importer from New York City. The same mark was used by four importers in the USA, PH Leonard, Bawo & Dotter, Charles L Dwenger and Paul A Straub & Co, The mark was used on the Vernon China line from the Count Thuns factory in Klasterec.
