The acclaimed British Guiana-born author's third novel. Set in British Guiana (now Guyana). This, the true first edition, is scarce. Good only in cloth-covered boards. No dust jacket. As seen in the photographs that accompany this listing, the boards are soiled and lightly bumped at the corners, the spine is faded and worn, the binding is a bit slanted, the front and rear endpapers are foxed and have tape residue, and the page edges show foxing spots. The book's pages are clean and unmarked, and, while the covers open wide, the binding is tight. The front and back images of the dust jacket panels were scanned. The remaining images are digital photographs that were taken in natural light with an iPhone 6s. The images have not been retouched or adjusted in any way, other than being cropped. As a long-time bibliophile, I know how important the condition and edition of an item are to a serious collector.
