This is the author's own advance copy, signed by the author using his real name "W.J.C. Lancaster", and dated 1909, and then later signed again using his pseudonym "Harry Collingwood" for his daughter, Evelyn, dated 1912. Harry Collingwood was the pseudonym of William Joseph Cosens Lancaster (1843-1922) , a British engineer and novelist who wrote over 40 adventure books. He was the son of a master mariner, and most of his books have a nautical theme. Scarce original pictorial hardback. 368 pages, with 6 black and white illustrations by Cyrus Cuneo, all present and correct. 16 page publisher's catalogue to rear.In very attractive condition with some light wear, fading, and bumping (see pictures). Light toning to the prelims and leaves. Internally clean. Binding sound and square. Unique.
