Signed Original EDITH MARK MILSK Lithograph “SAN FRANCISCO”, circa 1940

Description: “SAN FRANCISCO”, CIRCA 1940 SIGNED ORIGINAL LITHOGRAPH BY THE AMERICAN ARTIST AND PRINTMAKER EDITH MARK MILSK (1899-1982) This scarce lithograph titled “San Francisco”, a scene of Filbert Street looking from Telegraph Hill across San Francisco Bay to Treasure Island, is by the California artist Edith “Mark” Milsk. The lithograph is signed in pencil by the artist in the margin below the image lower right: Mark Milsk. The artist titled the lithograph in pencil in the margin below the image lower left: “San Francisco”. The lithograph also has the artist’s plate signature in the image bottom center: Mark Milsk. The lithograph is printed on wove paper. The image size measures 9 7/8 x 8 inches. The sheet with full margins measures 12 1/2 x 9 7/8 inches. The etching comes unframed. * The artist also created an etching similar to this lithograph, titled “Filbert St. SF”, with slight changes in detail and larger plate mark image size. PLEASE NOTE CONDITION: There is the slightest hint of light toning to the sheet (previous mat window open area), and the verso of the sheet has brown paper tape hinge remnant along the top edge, otherwise the lithograph is very fine condition, a crisp clean impression, with no evidence of any damage to the image. Edith “Mark” Milsk was born in St Paul, Minnesota on November 15, 1899. Milsk studied at California School of Fine Art (Sacramento), Art Students League of NYC, and Chouinard Art School in Los Angeles. By the 1930s she had settled in San Francisco and had a studio on Montgomery Street. She became part of the Bohemian scene and for a short time she was known as the "Cowgirl Artist" due to her studies of rodeos and cowboy portraits. During the 1940s she married Ed Imperato, a merchant seaman who drifted in and out of her life. She died in San Pablo, California on December 21, 1982.
