Description: You are looking at one of the most beautiful and oldest of Alafolo war clubs! It's dates from 1870s (possibly slightly earlier). I have owned quite a few Alafolo to date...none surpassed this specimen's elegance, form, symmetry, design...patina...hue, etc...This is one of the best extant. It predates the majority of poor quality clubs by a few decades. The finish on this club is spectacular...unlike the majority which were manufactured out of softer wood species -- crude in overall appearance (made to be sold as early curios)....This, is the real deal....it was used to protect the warrior in combat situations, the wood is very hard with a gorgeous dark orange hue that gradually turns a dark burgundy towards the grip. Note the important and highly stylized features of an ancestor janus head (8 pairs of eyes; a mouth with sharp teeth (grinning) and "arms / hands". The other side is bereft of a mouth. Period old small damage to one nose. It's in very good condition overall This is ex Joe Salamanca, if my memory serves me correctly. This beautiful old war club looks 100x better in person!!! Measurements: approximately 40 inches in length.
