Description: Description:This is an early printing of the first edition of The Fountainhead, by Ayn Rand. It is known sometimes as the “Blakiston” edition, which was a wartime early reprint that used the original Bobbs-Merrill plates for the printing. It reproduced all of the numerous printing errors in those first edition plates, and could still be considered a first edition, but a later printing. There are a few differences of opinion on these details. This edition features the red boards, now discolored to a reddish brown. The words “First Edition” are not present on the copyright page. The title page lists “The Blakiston Company” at the bottom, while the copyright page lists “Bobbs-Merrill Company” as the publisher. The original dust jacket is missing. The printing errors are all present: On page 9, the number 9 is printed as an “o”, on page 321, line 5 has the mispelled word “referred" as “refrred”, page 381, line 4 has a smaller “G” in the initials “G.W.”, page 480, line 2 misspells Dominique as “Domininque”, page 651, line 10 of the second paragraph uses the word “weight” instead of “weigh”. This is a decent, vintage copy. There are typical age-related blemishes, (soil marks on the cover, frayed edges, hinge cracks, etc.) but overall, it is a solid and readable copy. (Please look at the photos carefully, as they are part of the description!) The FountainheadAyn RandPre-ISBNThe Blakiston Company/Bobbs-Merrill, 1943 printingHardcover, 754 pages Condition: This vintage copy is in well-worn, but acceptable condition. The pages are excellent with no soiling, wrinkles, or other signs of wear. There is one almost-crease on the title page. The original dust jacket is missing. The boards and binding do have noticeable wear. The original red boards have discolored to a reddish brown, there are several water marks on the front cover, and there is some scuffing/rubbing on the surface. The corners and edges are frayed. The binding has movement but the pages are holding solidly. There are hinge cracks at the front and back. Overall, this early printing is in surprisingly sturdy condition with clean and unblemished pages. (Please see photos for details.) All books are wrapped and packed carefully in cardboard to ensure their safe arrival.____________________________________Okay, here are all those pesky little details: Payment:I ask that you pay within 3 days. If you are having an unexpected delay, just email me to let me know. Life happens, but communication can solve almost any confusion. I do combine postage on multiple items going to the same address. Just email me to let me know so I can send you a revised invoice with the adjusted postage.Nonpayment:I am a pretty easygoing person, but if I haven't either received payment within 3 days or heard from you, I have to assume you aren't planning on actually making the purchase. This means I'll have to follow eBay procedures for nonpayment of an item.Shipping:I always choose the least expensive form of shipping in order to save you money. The U.S. Post Office provides great service and their package tracking is free on all your purchases. However, sometimes speed is more important and I am happy to upgrade your shipping options if you can pay for the additional costs. If you contact me BEFORE payment, I am happy to set up alternative shipping methods, such as FedEx or UPS. I am an excellent packager and have a good supply of mostly recycled packaging supplies. I assure you I will take great care when I pack up your items. I've never had any damages yet! I go to the Post Office almost every day, so you can be sure that your item will be packed up and on its way to you either the same day or by the end of the next business day. Customer Service/Communication:Please remember, I have no control over the speed of the shipping once I drop your package off at the Post Office. I ship quickly on my end, but sometimes "stuff happens" during transit. I'm so sorry, but remember, it wasn't me. I personally hate it when I don't know what's going on with my online orders. Therefore I make sure to send you plenty of emails to let you know the details of your payments and the status of your shipment. Before you leave negative feedback, please email me first. I can usually figure out a solution to just about anything! And if you have any questions at all I am always happy to answer them.Returns:I want my customers to be happy with their purchases so I stand behind what I sell. If you are unhappy with your purchase within 30 days, you may return it; buyer pays postage. If I have made any errors in my description, I will pay the postage myself.Feedback:What makes eBay work is its feedback system. Please remember to leave honest and fair feedback promptly and I will do the same for you! Thanks for visiting The Occasional Something!Come again! _gsrx_vers_1292 (GS 8.3.6 (1292))
