As a plot summary on Amazon reminds us: "Jeremy Rodock (James Cagney) makes his living by raising horses in the Rocky Mountain valley that bears his name. Anyone foolish enough to steal those horses makes his own dyin.' "Let one buzzard live, and he'll pick your bones clean," explains Jeremy, who - with courtrooms some 200 miles away - dispenses justice his way: with a noose. But that's not the way of Jeremy's companion Jo (Irene Papas), a former honky-tonk queen. She wants him to change, and there's a greener valley somewhere for her if he won't. He will. This original poster from the film's 1956 German theatrical release measures an enormous 46” x 64” and is mounted on linen. The top of the poster reads “James Cagney in Jeremy RODACK Mein Wille ist Gesetz Atlas Western III in Farbe und CinemaScope Regie: Robert Wise.” Next to the noose is the name “FISCHER-NOSBISCH” for designer Dorothea Fischer-Norbisch (1921-2009). As the artist database eART.de reminds us (and translated from German): “Fischer-Nosbisch stands for the designer couple Fritz Fischer and Dorothea Fischer- Nosbisch. After studying at the Städel School in Frankfurt am Main, make the two together independently. In 1958, she initiated the creation of the design group NOVUM. Atlas Film is the most important authority: Dorothea designed stamps for the post. She lived near Darmstadt. Dorothea Fischer- Nosbisch designed the famous posters for films … The Silence (1964), The Blue Angel (1964), Twelve O’Clock High (1958), Dear John (1965), The Seven Year Itch (1966). The lower right corner is marked “FSK” and “FREIGEGEBEN” within a circle. The poster is in fairly good vintage condition, with horizontal and vertical creases from being folded and rolled, staining and soiling on front and back, four small punch-holes in the center from display or storage, and some losses along the edges but with all four corners intact. Despite these obvious signs of age this poster would look beautiful framed, and is both an extremely rare variant and an enormous size!
