Book Info: This comprehensive, colour-illustrated volume covers the identification and biology of stinging and poisonous sea creatures, their effects on humans, the first aid and medical management of victims, and the prevention of envenomation in recreation and work. Written by contributors around the world under the auspices of the International Consortium for Jellyfish Stings, the book provides details suitable for marine biologists, divers, and fisheries officers. It should also be a useful resource for safety and first aid officers in all marine industries. -- Customer Review -- We have long needed this book. Historically, most texts have either concentrated on describing the natural history of venomous organisms or the medical implactions of envemonations (a noteable exception is the excellent contributions by Halstead). This book provides a great deal of biological informtion about toxic marine organisms and then combines this with the latest information about medical treatments for envenomations. In addition, this book also contains an excellent reveiw and classification for cnidae, which I have personally been looking for for a while. -- Customer Review -- This is an out of print book, which I was already familiar with. I had used it many years ago as a reference book to understand venomous marine organisms and the treatment of related marine injuries. I was interested in adding this outstanding, unique publication to my private collection and finally found it at a more reasonable price than others previously offered by private sellers. This is a medical and biological reference book, not written for the average reader, with explicit photographs of marine injuries.
