VIETNAM WAR USAF MA-1 INTERMEDIATE FLYER'S JACKET NAMED

Description: Gentlemen, Offered here is this Vietnam War USAF MA-1 Intermediate Flyer's Jacket made by the renown Alpha Industries, Inc. in fiscal year, 1965. This jacket belonged to Col. John "Mooney" "Buck" Rogers. During WWII he flew the P-47 with the 365th Fighter Group, otherwise known as the "Hell Hawks". They took part in the D-Day campaign, the advance across France, Operation Market Garden, the Battle of the Bulge, and the invasion of Germany. Rogers had the distinction of landing the first P-47s on German occupied soil. He later lead the very first allied mission flown from Germany. In 1947 and 1949, Colonel Rogers was assigned to a RP-80 squadron at Langley AFB, Virginia, during which time he lead one of the first jet-aerobatic teams in existence. The next three years were spent at Furestenfeldbruch, Germany in the 36th Fighter Wing, flying the F-84. He ran the USAF first jet instrument school and concluded his tour as Commander, 54th Fighter Squadron. Upon return to Minneapolis, Minnesota, he comanded the 18th Fighter Interceptor Squadron which converted from F-51 to F-86, to F-89 aircraft and deployed to Alaska, September 1954. Returning from Fairbanks, Alaska, after concluding three and one and an half years as Commander, 18th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, he attended Command and Staff College and was assigned to Travis AFB as Commander, 82nd Fighter Interceptor Squadron which utilized the F-102 aircraft. The year 1961 found Colonel Rogers in Wiesbaden, Germany as Air Defense Plans Officer, Hq USAFE. After two years, reassignment again returned him to squadron command duties at Castle AFB, California, 456th Fighter Interceptor Squadron with the F-106 aircraft. A two-year tour at ADC Hqs as Director Operational Readiness Inspector at Colorado Springs, Colorado followed. Duties as Director Operations, 27th Air Division, Luke AFB, Arizona were concluded August 1968 when reassigned to Misawa AB, Japan. This jacket is in amazing condition considering it is almost 6 decades old. All parts are original to the jacket. Comes in a highly desirable size Medium, please check the measurements. The outer shell is in great shape, no rips. Contract label is in great condition. Blackened Conmar zipper is working perfectly. Knits have some tiny moth holes, which is very common due to the nature of the material. They don't affect the performance of the jacket, and can be easily repaired if desired. Left chest depicts the name tag wings printed "LT/COL J. H. ROGERS USAF" Right chest shows stitch holes from the command patch removed at some point. (Barely noticeable) Both epaulets show stitch holes from the rank insignia removed at some point. (Barely noticeable) Needles to say, it is quite rare to find these jackets in original and wearable condition nowadays, even more if it's named.
