Description: Vintage PILOT SURVIVAL KIT by The Alpine Map Co SEALED Vintage PILOT SURVIVAL KIT by The Alpine Map Co SEALED This listing is for a "Pilot Survival Kit" that I acquired from the estate of a Vietnam era Flight Surgeon. I don't think this is a military issue as it's not olive drab or dull blue, but I suspect that may be the era it is from. I also think any survival kit made after the mid-1970s would probably have some sort of mylar blanket included whereas this kit doesn't. The kit was manufactured by the Alpine Map Co. of Boulder Colorado and I can't even find a reference to them online. As we all know, a lot of people who served in Indochina supplemented their military issue gear with private label products. I'm thinking that may be the case with this, The survival kit is sealed in a high impact waterproof container. It contains over 20 items including a 8 foot tube tent, a signal mirror, high pitch whistle, basic first aid kit, emergency notes on fire building, weather, shelter, etc, a candle, firesticks, nylon cord, safety pin. razor blade, wire, foil, bullion cubes, tea bags and more. I don't know if any of this stuff has expiration dates but this would be a great survival kit for hiking, winter driving, or just to have around home. The whole kit is sealed in a tube that is a little over 8" tall and 2 3/4" in diameter. Small enough to stuff in a pocket or backpack. If any of you know more about this item please let me know. I always like to know more about what I'm selling. Shipping will be free within the lower 48. International shipping via Ebay's International Shipping. TERMS (PLEASE READ BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS): Payment: All you should have to do at the end of an auction is click "Pay Now". There is no need to ask for an invoice or wait for one. I will send an invoice if you request one but my first priority will be to mail the items I have been paid for. Shipping (PLEASE DO READ): ANY requests for special packaging, handling, etc. MUST be transmitted through EBAY (not regular email) to the seller within 12 hours of the end of the auction. Sellers are pretty much forced to follow Ebay policies for shipping. That means the package must have tracking. In over 17 years on Ebay I have never tried to make money on shipping. Please bear in mind that the estimated postage includes a slight bump to cover Ebay fees which are charged on postage and other postal services (Insurance or Signature Delivery Confirmation for items expected to go over $150, etc) and to help cover the costs of all those petroleum based packing materials (peanuts, bubble wrap, etc). Many items are also insured in case of loss/damage. If a package was insured through Ebay's ShipCover, that will not appear on the postage label or in the postage amount. On heavier or oversize items, I may ship via FEDEX GROUND to try to save you money and/or delivery time. Similarly, if I can combine shipping for you I will, and will refund any significant savings. Please note that I will not combine items if their size or nature makes it impractical, more expensive or dangerous (I won't ship a lead weight and a porcelain vase together). International Shipping: International buyer's are responsible for their country's import duty or tariffs. International payments may require additional postage to include a tracking number or signature receipt. Sellers are pretty much forced to follow Ebay guidelines for shipping, which means there must be a tracking number used. For International shipping that means Priority Mail, Express Mail or Registered Mail. Frankly, I hate seeing buyers spend that kind of money on postage, but I have little choice but to protect myself by following the guidelines. ETC: The items I sell come from various collections and estates. Generally these items have been used or stored. I have no way of knowing whether the previous owner ever smoked, had pets, stored peanuts, or ever had a musty basement, etc. I do at least a cursory cleaning of the items I sell and will do my best to remove dirt, display dust, odors etc, but I CAN NOT be responsible for things like dust in tight corners, odors I didn't detect, or some mark buried in the middle of a book. You're not paying for my time on an hourly basis and you're certainly not paying professional conservator/restoration rates so please be reasonable. I try to be as factual as I can when describing an item. I don't claim to be an expert or collector of the things I sell. I sell a wide variety of items and may not know that a light is supposed to go on when a certain button is pushed or that an item is supposed to have 6 pieces instead of 5, or if an item came with a specific sticker/decal on it. I try very hard to describe things as best as I can and provide good photographs. Please look at the photos, if you don't see something ask me, don't assume that it is there. Please don't expect me to be able to answer your more technical or historical questions. If you can put it in words I understand or tell me where to look, I'll do my best to answer your question.
