This midcentury magic is a cleverly designed convertible handbag that allows for three different looks by a removable cover and spring mechanism. Produced in the late 1950s and '60s, it was known as the "3-in-1 Design Structure Purse" from L & M Bags By Edwards, New York Its spring mechanism is a proprietary design, unique to this manufacturer, patented in 1957 US Pat#2809685.Stamped in gold ink in the interior is "Made in the USA." The brand logo wasn't added in this purse.At its base, the purse showcases solid black grosgrain fabric with a clear lucite top handle and gold-tone metal hinged frame and clip clasp. It comes with an additional double-sided "slip-cover" for a classic smooth black leather-like look. The third side is a fantastic gros point/needlepoint embroidery in a range of spring and fall leaves/branches, stitched in a palette of green, pink, mauve, red, gold and brown yarns against a cream background. The purse is a tapered square with an arched, clear lucite handle and a decorative clasp that operates normally. Lined in black grosgrain fabric, the interior has one slip pocket and a deeper zipper pocket. Approx measurements: 9.5 " tall, 12" wide and 3.25" across its base. Handle drop is 4.25" This well cared for purse is in excellent vintage, pre-owned condition. It is clean, no holes, no stains and no odors. Some minor wear including slight scratches and metal wear to the frame and clasp -- nothing that affects its beauty.
