Description: Without a doubt, this is one of the most interesting shirts, and perhaps one of the rarest shirts, that I've ever come across. This shirt was made in celebration of the 4th anniversary of the March 13th Revolution of 1979, where the Maurice Bishop and the New Jewel Movement instigated a coup against the authoritarian government of Eric Gairy and the Mongoose Gang. The coup (one of the most peaceful ever enacted) led to the formation of the People's Revolutionary Government (PRG) in Grenada, which was a Marxist-Leninist/Socialist government that was eventually torn down by the United States (and internal strife) in October of 1983. This particular shirt was made sometime before the dismantling of the socialist government in October, and some time after the 4th anniversary of the revolution, which took place in March of 1983. Each year on the anniversary the PRG set new goals for the country for the year. In 1983, the government decided the next year would be the 'Year of Political and Academic Education' which is emblazoned along the shoulder blades on the back of this shirt. The front of the shirt has various small call backs to the hallmarks of the revolution and the PRG, such as 'Forward Ever,' the first half of one of the government's mottoes: "Forwards Ever, Backwards Never.' That motto, among others, can be seen in the historical photograph attached to this listing. This shirt is strange for more than just its historical implications, as it was made on a somewhat scoop-necked shirt blank, the blank itself is Chinese in origin. The tag is labeled 'Blue Diamond' and as a size 36. The sizing of the should fit like a small or a medium across the chest, but the shirt is very cropped, so please refer to the measurements below before purchasing. I'm not sure how many artifacts remain from the time of socialist Grenada, but there can't be very many remaining. The United States took pains to dismantle most all infrastructure of the revolution, as well as destroying most other things related to it. Measurements:Chest (pit-to-pit): 18.5 in Length: 23.5 in Okay vintage condition. There are several tears in the fabrics by the dates '1979-83' on the front of the shirt, in the '9' and to the left of the '83.' There are also two tears on the right-hand sleeve where the sleeve is starting to separate from the body of the shirt. The stitching on the collar of the shirt is somewhat unraveled, missing portions. There are some stains through the front of the chest area, in the same region as the holes. The shirt is generally faded throughout, is very soft, and paper thin. This shirt has seen better days but is still completely wearable. See photos for more details. Sold as-is. Feel free to reach out with any questions or to request more photos. Thanks!
