ABOUT THE DESIGNER The company that made Original by Robért jewelry was founded as The Fashioncraft Jewelry Co. in New York, New York. The business was formed by partners Robert Levy, Irving Landsman, and David Jaffee in 1942, and the name of the company was changed to Robért Originals Inc. In the late 50’s Robert’s designs feature nature and floral motifs reminiscent of the Art Nouveau movement. Robert used faux pearls, colored glass, crystal beads, and high quality Austrian crystal beads set into elaborate gilded filigree metalwork. The hand-manipulated pieces marked Original by Robért are often mistaken as Miriam Haskell designs, Eugene, and DeMario jewelry since they all have a similar aesthetic. However, over the company’s time in business designs by Fashioncraft and then Original by Robért varied more widely and included cast or soldered jewelry heavily decorated with stones of various types or enameling.
