Description: Up for bid is a very collectible artist postcard designed by WILLOUGHBY SHARP. Published in 1977 by the well known Vancouver based art collaborative IMAGE BANK, for their second (and last) Image Bank Post Card Show. The curated exhibition featured contributions from 48 well known artists, who were asked to submit a single 4 x 6 format card of their choosing. The original designs were then displayed and reproduced as a box set catalogue of commemorative postcards. Buyer to receive one single artist's card as shown. Please note, images 3 and 4 are for reference only, and not included in the auction. Card measures 4"x6" (10x15cm) and printed on a medium weight semi-gloss card stock. Excellent vintage condition and guaranteed authentic. Safe secure shipping to all domestic locations. All foreign buyers will ship via ebay International Standard Delivery. Please see my other listings for more examples from the original set of cards. As I understand it, the original edition size of the box set catalogue was about 3000 copies, however few copies survived and now quite scarce. Please note, all original artist designs, paste ups, color separations and proposals are permanently housed in the Morris/Trasov Archive at the Belkin Art Gallery (University of British Columbia). Participating artists included Vito Acconci, Mac Adams, Eleanor Antin, John Jack Baylin, Jeff Berner, G.A. Cavellini, James Collins, Diego Cortez and Katharina Sieverding, Coum Transmissions, Robin Lee Crutchfield, Robert Cumming, Dadaland, Peter Daglish, Lowell Darling, Jimmy DeSana, Mario Diacono, Robert Filliou, Hervé Fischer, Charles Henri Ford, General Idea, Geoffrey Hendricks, Dick Higgins, Davi Det Hompson, Victor Hugo, Peter Hujar, Ray Johnson, Allen Jones, Marcel Just, Alison Knowles, Richard Kostelanetz, Les Levine, Glenn Lewis, Sol LeWitt, Gordon Matta-Clark, Robert Mapplethorpe, Eric Metcalfe, Michael Morris, Hermann Nitsch, Footsy Nutzle, Tom Phillips, Yvonne Rainer, Clive Robertson, Ed Ruscha, Willoughby Sharp, Vincent Trasov a.k.a. Mr. Peanut, Ben Vautier, and Allan Zubick. Image Bank (1969-1978) was a project founded in Vancouver by Michael Morris, Vincent Trasov (Mr. Peanut) and Gary Lee-Nova as a non-hierarchical, decentralized network and archive of artists, images, and ideas –freely exchanged through the international postal system– that operated outside the existing environment of galleries and museums. Image Bank collaborated closely with the trio General Idea (Toronto), and other like-minded networkers including Robert Filliou, Ant Farm, and Ray Johnson’s New York Correspondence School, who were optimistic in forming their own art-world ecologies. This network of user-generated content, which fostered queer, costumed, campy, and ironic personas, provided a model for the connected-but-impersonal mediascape that serves as the primary distribution medium for many artists today.
