Description: Now this is a bit different! WW2 Royal Navy Minesweeper MMS 270 (J770) Launch Commemorative ware (d.1942) MMS 270 was built for the RN by Frank Curtis of Par, St Austell, Cornwall. She was a MMS Class I 105ft wooden hull minesweeper and intended to counter magnetic influence mines in coastal waters. Their major minesweeping equipment was the LL sweep, where two minesweepers operating side by side, each trailed two buoyant cables with electrodes at the end of the cables. Pulsing a high current through the cables generated a magnetic field sufficient to set off the mines. This well crafted launch memento is made from a solid piece of mahogany, hand carvered & decorated with the ships number & launch date. The top mimics a hammered look often found on pewter and itβs fitted with twin copper ashtrays. One of these ashtrays is engraved with the name Sinclair Thompson and are both numbered which corresponds with the numbers within the holders. (10β x 6β x 3β) Great piece of Cornish boat building history! Local delivery, U.K & international shipping available with collections welcome too Thanks for viewing
